As we continue to build this site, please call us for additional informaton.

Deruta is located near Perugia in Umbria, Italy and has been known for its majolica ceramics for centuries. The pinnacle of the majolica production was at the end of the renaissance period from 1550-1600 when it was considered as important as painting and sculpture. Deruta is to this day still considered the finest school of majolica in Italy with 50 percent of its population being craftsmen and art designers specializing in producing majolica ceramics.

Since its foundation in 1955, the firm of Sambuco, Mario & Co. has been determined to devote particular care and sensibility to the classically shaped ceramic items and designs traditional to Deruta, Italy. One of the most important attainments of the Sambuco family was the reproduction of the tile flooring of St. Francis Church dating back to 1524. They have also specialized in reproducing large plates with scenes taken from the Michelangelo’s frescos of the St. Peter’s Sistine Chapel in Rome.

We have been forming a close relationship with Sambuco & Co and are proud to be the exclusive distributor for the Sambuco Collection. It is very exciting for us to be able to service our many retail customers directly from San Francisco.
